A kashmiri-Pandits view on BJP,Congress, AAP and MODI

ON BJP AND CONGRESS

“Narendra Bhai Modi”, or simply “Modi”-as he is referred all over India- has captivated the attention of entire India, in a way that many of us had never seen before. And Kashmiri-Pandits are no exception. KP’s have been known to support “BJP”, since their forced exodus from the valley of Kashmir. KP’s unanimously (except some anomalous groups-who follow their own personal agenda) are of this view that it was “BJP” and its allies, that stood behind them, at that time when they were at the nadir of their existence as a community. Also most of the KP’s believe that the “Gandhi’s” ditched them. “AAP” does not even exist for the community of KP’s.

The KP community were the staunch supporters of the “Congress-I”. Prior to 1990, The “Jan-sangh” and other “Hindu-centric” political parties could not make much impact on the “KP” community as a whole, because KP’s considered “Nehru-Gandhi” family as their own, an extension of their families. When Sh. Jawahar lal Nehru” died, many KP men and women were seen mourning his death. En-Masse, many women came on the streets of Kashmir , many of them were seen beating their chests in grief and mourning loudly in Kashmiri, “Kothiy gav sone Jawahar-lal( where has our own jawahar lal gone!) amidst tears.

Indira Gandhi too was adored by the KP-Community. I know for sure that She was in touch with many Kashmiri pundits through letters, and was abreast with the actual-happenings of Kashmir. Her death too was condoled deeply by the community of Kashmiri-Pandits.

In 1990, Kashmiri Pandits soon realized after their exodus that the “congress party”, whom they had supported all along, was no-where to be seen. It was at that time , “BJP” and its allies came forward to the help of the beleaguered community. Reservations were given to the students of “KP” community in various professional collages across India. The voice , concern and views of the KP’s were put forward vociferously by the “BJP”.

Sh. Rajiv Gandhi’s death in May 1991 was too grieved upon by a large section of KP’s even though congress had remained merely a mute-spectator of their forced exodus. Even though it had been over a year, since they were uprooted from Kashmir and that a large section of KP’s were still living in Make-shift tents or they were given a temporary -refugee in deserted Govt. buildings. The congress party’s cold response to KP Community in early nineties accentuated the dirty vote-bank-politics of congress. But in spite of everything, they felt the loss of Sh. Rajiv Gandhi.

A large section of people of India perceive “Gandhis” as “Brahmins” or “Pandits”. Their lineage is traced to Moti lal Nehru and Jawahar lal Nehru-The known faces of Indian independence struggle and Kashmiri pundits by birth. All these years, the Nehru-Gandhi family have projected their KP connection but I am sorry to say that they have done little for the upliftment of the KP community- towards which they owe their allegiance.

The BJP, on the other hand did exactly the opposite. Even though, KP’s are not a vote-bank, still the services rendered to KP’s by BJP is commendable.

ON AAP

To begin with most of the KP’s (as was with most of the Indians), thought that Anna and his team are being supported by the BJP. To a large extent, it was true. The majority of the people(80%) present at their protests were from the RSS and the BJP.

The main bone of contention with AAP is that one of their ace leader- Prashant Bhushan, has in the past obnoxiously supported the redundant theory of Plebiscite of Kashmir. Knowing well, that the plebiscite is a gate-way for Pakistan to usurp Kashmir. Prashant Bhushan’s stand on Kashmir is more or less the same even today as no unequivocal statement on Kashmir and plebiscite has been presented by him, though he has given some feeble dilatory ambiguous remarks on plebiscite on Kashmir. AAP’s soft approach towards him has made it evident that they too tacitly support his theory.

AAP’s known support to Moaists is also questionable? In the recent elections they have given tickets to the known sympathizers of Moaists. It is a known fact that Moasists and Jihadis have been/are working hand in glove, and are getting all the funding from the enemies of India. And that their only aim is to de-stabilize India.The recent vitriolic remarks of Shazia Ilmi- wherein she is exhorting Muslims to be communal-is invidious as well as disgusting. The anti-corruption masquerade of the AAP has become too transparent for a common man not to see through their intentions . Their servile attitude towards the known jihadis and Moaists is awful. The Balkanization tactics of India by the AAP on the name of anti-corruption or secularism will not be allowed in India, come what May…

ON MODI

No doubt, Narendra Bhai Modi is the most beloved leader of the Kashmiri Pandits as of today. Kashmiri pandit community has pinned a lot of hopes on Modiji. KP’s were thrilled to see that not only the abrogation of article 370 was included in the BJP manifesto, but the return of KP’s into the valley with dignity and Honour was also mentioned. KP’s believe that the Narendra Bhai Modi’s coronation as the Prime Minister of India is inevitable and that he will prove to be a force to reckon with. KP’s believe that India as a Nation will emerge stronger under the prime Ministership of Modiji.

And, as is with the rest of Indians, for KP’s as well,” BJP is Modi” and “Modi is the BJP”…..”AB KI BAAR, MODI SARKAR”.

A conversation on Kashmir with an ex-army man…

I and my friends Manish and Sunil were going to Garh-Mukhteshwar for a dip into the holy Ganges. As soon as we reached Garh-Mukhteshwar, we took a boat to go to other side of the river for a swim. The rays of the sun were shimmering in the waters of Ganga , intermittently blinding our eyes. The garland of flowers floating nearby shielded our eyes briefly, thus giving us some respite. That Garland may had embellished an idol of god or it may had been a final gesture of reverence to the dead by a family member. Who knows! Anyway, We reached the other side within minutes. A Panditji was offering prayers for his clients, who were repeating the hymns chanted by the Pandit.

I have always believed that the cool waters of the Ganges rejuvenates my body and mind and Manish could not disagree with me .After the Bath/Swim, we sat on the wooden planks nearby. And Manish started about his favorite topic-Kashmir and Kashmiri Pandits. An elderly Gentleman, who was sitting opposite,just a couple of meters away, on the other wooden plank approached us and asked, ”Are you Kashmiri Pandits?” I said, ”yes we are”. He said,” My name is Singh, I have served armed forces and I was Stationed at Kashmir in the nineties”.

Our conversation started…..

Manish-what is your present assessment of Kashmir?

Singh-It is better than nineties ,but it is still not Normal. When I was there, it was like a guerilla war, we never knew when, where , how and who will attack us. We had to be prepared at all times. Had we been given powers, we would have normalized the situation within a day. It is the politicians, who are doing the macabre dance on the cost of the lives of their soldiers, just to enhance their political career.

Manish- You must have heard the cacophony of pro-jihadi , anti-India, and anti-Hindu slogans, that was voiced from the loudspeakers of the Mosques across the valley?

Singh-Yes, I did and so did my colleagues.

Manish-Did you met Kashmiri Pandits there?

Singh-Only in the early 1990.You fled to jammu and other parts of India as the terrorists were killing you.

Manish-It was all pre-planned. The majority of the Muslims, in the valley, were privy of the plans and intentions of the Terrorists. But they maintained a sinister silence.

Sunil-In 1947, the army of the Maharaja sided with Pakistan and thus helped Pakistani army to annex POK. This all happened on the name of religion. The same happened at the time of Sukh Jiwan Mal, when his army deserted him. Yaqub shah, being a shia muslim was also deserted by his army. History repeated itself in 1989-90 and Kashmiri Pandits were rendered homeless.

Singh- The lack of political will is a deterrent for the return of Kashmiri Pandits. you are not a vote-bank and you did not even raise your armed unit to counter your hostile contemporaries in Kashmir .The political will is a must for the return of Kashmiri Hindus. Kashmiri muslims are being heard because they talk not only diplomatically masquerading peace, but when the need arises ,they restore to violent methods also. They know how to be heard.

Manish-We are a peaceful community. But that does not mean that we are naïve. At the same time, I have to agree with you. Our peaceful nature has become a hindrance. The govt. too knows this fact, that is why they have not been able to make inroads for the kashmiri pundits into Kashmir. Pakistan has a Plan for Kashmir and Kashmiri Muslims. National conference, PDP and congress has plan for Kashmiri Muslims .The plan for Kashmiri Hindus is to appease Kashmiri Muslims by marginalizing KP’s socially, financially, religiously and politically . As you said it is vote-bank politics.

Sunil-The valley-centric political parties are playing dirty politics. They have over years, successfully sown the seeds of hatred against India. The frequent outbursts of Mustafa Kamal against India is not new. The recent obnoxious statements of NC MP Ghulam Nabi Ratanpuri is also not new. Attaullah suhurwardy,a senior NC Leader, the former minister and Deputy speaker had said in a speech in State legislative council that he is first a Muslim then an India and that It is the fundamental duty of a Muslim to strive for conversion ,any muslim who forgets this duty is not a worthy Muslim. The Kashmiri Hindus were proving to be an impediment for the religious zealots and bigoted politicians.
PDP is also no saint. Their patron Mufti mohammed syed instigated riots and violence at Anantnag, which led to migration of many Kashmiri pundits in the mid 1980’s.It is a known fact that when he was the chief Minister of the state, he did not used to salute the National Flag of India on special occasions like 26th jan or 15th August. It was a clear indication to his vote-bank that he does not care about India. These gestures by the valley-based mainstream political over the years have poisoned the minds of majority of Muslim minds. This propaganda has lead a Kashmir Pandit to a point of no-return.

Manish-That is why we demand a separate homeland for Kashmiri Pandits. we have seen seven migrations. Enough is enough .We can not live anymore at the will and whim of Islamist fundamental jehadi mindset politicians, who use us whenever it suits them and discards us when it suits the emotions of their vote-bank.

Singh-The politicians should consider this option. As I said a political will of the government is a must to facilitate the return of Kashmiri Pandits.

Manish –If Govt. is not serious to facilitate our return on our conditions then, let them formally announce us as Refugees. There are many countries who have special laws for refugees. We will also find one such country. At least we-the kashmiri Pandits can live as a community and preserve our ancient heritage and culture.

Singh-Govt. should ponder over this point too. You see, Kashmir matters for me as well!

Sunil-How does it really matter to You or rest of Indians .Majority of Indians are still oblivious to the plight of Kashmiri Pandits. Majority of them still believe that we live in Kashmir even today.

Singh-You may be right! But I too have given my blood for Kashmir. I was hit by the bullet in my right leg. My colleague was killed in the Gun battle with the terrorists, in front of my eyes. I too faced trauma-physically , emotionally as well as mentally.

He folded up his trousers to the thigh. There was a livid Scar above the right side of his right knee. I looked at the face of Singh. It was livid as well. The sweat drops on his forehead made me realize the conspicuousness of his Curled white moustaches that still had some shades of black. Just like his personality.
Calmness descended on his face as he curled down his trousers.. He was again composed .Manish was looking at him intensely.

Manish-Singh Saab, I appreciate your patriotism. You are also one of our many unsung heroes, who gave their blood for Kashmir.

Sunil-I agree with Manish. Where will you go from here singhji?

Singh-I live in Gajraula. I will reach there within half an hour .Where are you going?

Manish-Lucky you. You have a place to be called as Home. My home is illegally occupied by some Muslim men in Kashmir. By the way, we are going to NOIDA.

We exchanged our mobile numbers, with this hope that we will remain in touch with each other and share some more information and incidents on Kashmir. Before he left he said, ”you should ask Govt. for a place of your own in Kashmir”

Singh fared good bye to us. We watched his back as he walked with a limp towards the Boat. His family was already in the Boat. A man grabbed his hand and pulled him into the Boat. The boatman paddled the Boat away from us. we waved with our hands at Singh. He waved back. He alighted from the Boat, ascended the stairs , looked back at us and again waved. we waved back.
Singh Saab was gone but there are thousands of singh saab’s who have fought for Kashmir. Kashmiri Pandit’s fight for the restoration of their rights and justice is long, arduous with little support from the Government machinery. For some, it may look impossible to restore our basic fundamental rights in Kashmir. At times, it feels that a Kashmiri pandit is fighting a lone battle. But then we meet some people like singh, for whom Kashmir still matters. And hope floats. Just like that garland that floated in the Ganges and shielded our eyes from the blinding reflections of the Sun…..

Miscommunication between KP’s and KM’s

It has been more than 20 years since kashmiri pundits left Kashmir valley because of Terrorism. In these years one generation of Kashmiri Muslims and one generation of Kashmiri hindus Were born and raised in two distinctive religious, political and geographical areas.

It is obvious that the experience of both has been different. Both are part of fairy tales, those bed story tales which this generation has heard from their elders . Short Anecdotes of Kashmiri Hindus like ”Kashmir is not a safe place for us.Jihadis will kill us, because we are Hindus” may sound true for the new generation of hindus who were born outside Kashmir, because They have seen their parents and relatives struggling hard for their basic existence. They have seen their aged grand and great grandparents poignantly recalling their hey days in Kashmir. They have also seen their grandparents die with a unfulfilled last wish of returning back to their home in Kashmir. They have heard that bomb blasts, cross firing and killing is a routine affair in Kashmir.

Kashmiri Muslim Generation has grown up to somewhat similar anecdotes and bed time stories. “It is not safe in Kashmir,It is not safe in Jammu. It is not safe in Ahmedabad.It is not safe in delhi and Mumbai” and the young generation has their reasons to believe what their elders say. They have seen how even innocent and well educated are framed for being a terrorist before being proved innocent by the high court’s of India. But the whole process takes months and years as was in the case of prof. S.A.R. Geelani.

The two Kashmiri communities viz Kashmiri Hindus and Kashmiri Muslims have very little faith on each other, thanks to miscommunication of 20 years. Whenever some organization tries to bridge the gap between the two communities, the efforts gets hijacked and sabotaged by those surreptitious and greedy   elements Who have made a killing out of 20 years of unrest in Jammu and Kashmir. Unfortunately, these people are still at the helm of the affairs.

There are also some elements who would not like to see Kashmiri pundits back to Kashmir. These elements have illegally captured properties of Kashmiri Hindus and they are the first to come to streets and protest against return of pundits to Kashmir. Politicians of Kashmir are aware of this fact and they choose to Close their eyes and remain mum on this whole affair at least for the time being.

There has been a paradigm shift of opinions of Kashmiri Muslim towards Kashmiri Hindus and lack of Communication between the two is the prime reason for all the misunderstandings. separatist parties will never enter into the fray where the two communities try to sort out their differences and enter into a dialogue as this will subsequently dilute their influence and power . mainstream political party will also never try to bring the two communities closer because of the strings attached to vote bank politics of India. In the best interest of both the communities, the community volunteers should make their best effort to reach out to each other. There are many if’s and buts’ which arises from the present scenario. Instead of haranguing each other the two communities should open a channel of formal as well as informal communication. They should at least give it a try..

politics and Mumbai terror attack

Mumbai terror attack….. The biggest terror attack of India has shaken every ordinary Indian. People of India are shocked by this horrible incident and are angry with the system in general and politicians in particular. Yesterday many peaceful protests were seen in almost every major city in India like Mumbai, Delhi, and Lucknow….The crowd applauded the real heroes of Mumbai terror attack like Nsg Commandos, Marine Commandos and Mumbai police.

Ordinary Indians are very annoyed with the politicians who are constantly trying to use Mumbai terror incident for their personal political benefit. Although this incident cost Mr. shivraj patil(ex-home minister),Mr. R.R Patil (Dy. Chief Minister, Maharashtra) and Mr. Vilasroa deshmukh(Chief Minister, Maharashtra) their seats for being irresponsible and in-sensitive to terror attacks, but still people feel that more stringent actions should be taken.

This incident also reflected the sick minds of some politicians like Mr. Mukhtar  Abbas naqvi, now confirmed by public in general as being obsessed by the lipstick and powder of urban lady protestors of Mumbai. Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan was not allowed to enter the house by the father of late Martyr Sandeep Unnikrishan who felt the Minister only came to house for political gain as he was being pressurized in Kerala by the opposition BJP for not showing respect to the Martyr.

Kerala chief minster had given an statement that not even a dog would have visited their house had it not been the house of late Martyr Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan.After being hounded by the media for more than 24 hours for this derogatory statement against the Martyr, he had to apologize and take back his controversial statement…“I feel extremely sorry for the anguish my remark had caused to Sri Sandeep Unnikrishnan’s family and others, and I express regret for the same,”.

People in general also don’t believe that the Mumbai terror incident was carried by only ten terrorists!!! I also don’t believe that only 10 terrorists can do this much of devastation..and this type of incident was not possible without some local support…

Well…This was not the first terror attack and this won’t be the last..Statistics say that there will be again an major terror attack in India within next 2-3 months….The big question remains whether we have really learnt anything from these barbaric, inhuman violent attacks and whether we can prevent these types of attacks in future??

Malaysia bans hindu organisation

 MALAYSIA BANS HINDU ORGANISATION

Hindu rights action force(HINDRAF) has been banned by Malaysian government which is predominantly muslim.

Hindraf came into international focus after it organized a massive rally on November 25 last year to protest alleged marginalisation of the ethnic Indian minority in this country.Malaysian home minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar said”The ministry found the organisation’s activities contravened the Societies Act 1966 and if left unchecked, the organisation could pose a threat to public order, peace, security and morality in Malaysia,” he said, adding that even the sovereignty of the country and prevailing racial harmony would be jeopardised.

More than 20,000 people attended the rally, which was branded as illegal by the government. The large participation took the Abdullah Badawi government by shock. A large section of the ethnic Indians supported the Hindraf as they felt that the Malaysian Indian Congress, led by Samy Vellu, had done little to uplift the community over the past several decades

RE: COWARDLY ACT BY THE UMNO LED GOVERNMENT TO SUPPRESS AND OPPRESS MALAYSIAN INDIAN MINORITY

Declaring Hindraf as an illegal organization will in any case not banish the spirit that created Hindraf . Hindraf represents a very deep feeling experienced in the hearts and souls of millions of Indians both locally and Internationally.

This dastardly and ludicrous attempt by the Home minister to declare HINDRAF as an illegal organisation clearly indicates that the UMNO led government is at the end of their wit and shows that Malaysia is indeed a police state under the pretext of democracy.

The UMNO led government continued use of the sanctity of illegitimate laws such as ISA, Sedition Act, and now the Societies Act with their predatory acts against HINDRAF is a desperate attempt to silence legitimate voice of democracy.

The UMNO led government enjoys demonizing and bullying us on the pretext of law, public order, National security when all we are fighting for is to address the true and real condition of the downtrodden Malaysian Indians who have been systematically marginalized, suppressed and oppressed.

The UMNO government is not able to understand the phenomenon of Hindraf. Hindraf represents the Indian commoner, the hard working oily faced man who is made fun of in the streets, the man who people step on, the man who walks past you yet you notice him not. These are the people whom Hindraf represents – the marginalized and downtrodden Indians. They all do not wither away with this illegal declaration. The Government obviously has a primitive understanding of the situation, they cannot see a genuine problem within a significant section of the Malaysian society.

Look at the annals of history – when the people begin to demand what is truly theirs no governing elite have been able to stop them – take the French revolution, the American revolution, the anti-colonial and liberation movements through the first half of the 20th century and then the liberation of Africa in the late 20th century culminating in the abolition of apartheid in South Africa.

HNDRAF is peoples’ mass movement that seeks the moral and spiritual truth for the oppressed Malaysian Indians against the tyranny of the UMNO led government.

HINDRAF’s movement has raised the self worth of every individual in Malaysia and demand that the dignity and equality for each and every Malaysian cannot be abandoned and diluted for the glory of the UMNO led government whose only intention is to stir racial tension and maintain their status quo.

HINDRAF will not flinch with these threats and will continue its struggle against the UMNO regime in Malaysia as we can no longer be cowed nor are we any longer afraid. It is the people’s mass movement for moral and spiritual truth on the basis of humanity against the tyranny of the current ruling government.

It is only fair for the Prime Minister to advise his Home Minister to revoke the order.

militants in j&k are terrorists-ZARDARI

Declaring that India is not a “threat” to his country, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has described the militants operating in Jammu and Kashmir as “terrorists”, the first such admission by any top Pakistani leader.

“India has never been a threat to Pakistan. I, for one, and our democratic Government is not scared of Indian influence abroad,” Zardari told ‘Wall Street Journal’ in an interview

He spoke of the militant groups operating in Kashmir as “terrorists,” the paper said noting that former President Pervez Musharraf would more likely have called them “freedom fighters.”

Indicating a major shift in Pakistan’s well known position, Zardari had, as chief of Pakistan People’s Party, said in March that the ties between two countries should not be held “hostage” to the Kashmir issue, which should be left for future generations to decide, raising hackles at home.

The latest positive signals from Zardari come days fater his maiden meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here on the sidelines of UN General Assembly meeting.

Replying to a question, Zardari said he had no objection to the India-US nuclear deal so long as Pakistan is treated “at par.”

“Why would we grudge the largest democracy in the world getting friendly with one of the oldest democracy?” he said.

Asked whether he would consider a free-trade agreement with India, the paper said he responded with a “string of welcome, perhaps even historic, surprises.”

While seeking better ties with New Delhi, he noted that “there is no other economic survival for nations like us. We have to trade with our neighbours first.”

About Pakistan’s economic crisis-the central bank has about two months’ worth of foreign currency reserves left to pay for the country’s imports of oil and food-Zardari said he looks to the world to “give me USD 100 billion.”

The paper says he imagines Pakistani cement factories being constructed to provide for India’s huge infrastructure needs, Pakistani textile mills meeting Indian demand for blue jeans, Pakistani ports being used to relieve the congestion at Indian ones.

Against the backdrop of the US-Pakistan row over the cross-border raids in the restive tribal belt by coalition forces from Afghanistan, Zardari said “I am an American friend” and admitted that the US is carrying out Predator missile strikes on the Pakistani soil with his Government’s consent, the paper reported.

“We have an understanding, in the sense that we’re going after an enemy together,” he said.

“I am not going to fall for this position that it’s an unpopular thing to be an American friend. I am an American friend,” he said.

About the Pakistani security forces firing on the US aircraft, he said it was merely an incident, “and while incidents do happen, they are not important.”

Zardari also acknowledged the problem that had bedevilled past efforts at US-Pakistani cooperation, particularly in intelligence sharing: the widely held suspicion that Pakistani intelligence services continue to cooperate with, and even arm, the Taliban.

“You know, you keep an uglier alternative around so that you may not be asked to leave,” he said, in reference to allegations that while Musharraf was fighting Islamic radicals with one hand, he was protecting them with the other.

Zardari refused to go into further detail other than to say he “solved the problem”. The head of ISI Nadeem Taj was replaced this week by Ahmad Shuja Pasha. (PTI)

Controversy behind amaranth yatra
Amarnath yatra is considered to be one of the holiest places for Hindus. It is here where a natural and magnificent ice shiv linga is formed. Traditionally the yatra used to last for one month as the basic infrastructure and amenities were lacking. However Mr. S.K. sinha the ex-governor of J&K improved the quality of the yatra by providing various facilities and thereby, It was possible to extend this yatra for two months. SASB (shri amarnathji shrine board) was formed and, the purpose of this board is to provide quality facilities to pilgrims coming from different parts of India.
It was the ruling coalition of congress and PDP, first proposing cabinet decision (No. 94/7 of 2008) for diversion of 39.88 ha land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board. But elections round the corner in next 3-4 months in J&k, Mufti and his party have politicized the issue of allotting 800 canals (100 acres) of land to SASB.
Senior leader of PDP Muzaffar beig, alleged that it was their helplessness, that they passed this resolution as congress threatened that they will stop the construction of mougal road, which will join Kashmir with their “Muslim brethren” in poonch.The separatist faction of Hurriyat, headed by moulvi umar farooq and syed geelani, who are swore enemies of each other forgot their differences and joined hands together to protest this land deal. The reasons PDP cited were, that hundred of tress will be cut for constructions at baltal. Hurriyat factions alleged that SASB members are non State-subjects and hence aggressors and attackers. National conference was also not far behind with Omar Abdullah saying that this protest is a proof of Kashmir nationalism or patriotism. This mass uprising of Muslims in valley is not a sudden love for environment, but by protesting this land deal they are indirectly protesting Hindus and India. This mass uprising has been termed as an equivalent of 1990 when thousands of kashmiri Hindus were massacred on the name of religion and jihad.
The fact is that in 1998 Dr. Faroq Abdullah acquired 623 canals of forest land at sidra for construction of Muslim migrant colony. Another issue being exploited by the NC-PDP and others is the land in question was forest land (SASB Land) and that could not be transferred….. But what about the Mughal Road? 10,000 trees were cut, 30,000 wild lives were destroyed to construct Mughal Road. Who cleared the cabinet order in this regard? It was Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who as a chief Minister with the support of his Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma issued the cabinet order and destroyed forest land and wild life.
So called Indian secularist need to re-think as to what “secular” really means in India?
They also need to think who really are seculars….”Muslims” or “Hindus”. How is allotment of forest land to SASB different from allotment of forest land at sidra and mougal road? who is politicizing religion in J&K? Hindus or Muslims!!!!!!!!!!!!The double standards of Muslim politicians of j&k have once again been clearly exposed by this incident……..

Muslims silent as Pandits fled: Omar Abdullah

This is what Omar Abdullah said recently:

SRINAGAR: National Conference president Omar Abdullah has accused Muslims of being mute spectators at the time of exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley in the 1990s. “It’s so easy to say that we will lay down our lives to bring Kashmiri Pandits back to the Valley and I appreciate the sentiment as I am sure the Kashmiri Pandits reading it will. Pity that sentiment was missing when our mosques were being used to drive these people out,” Omar said in his blog on the official website of his party. “None of us was willing to stand up and be counted when it mattered. None of us grabbed the mikes (microphones) in the mosques and said ‘this is wrong and the Kashmiri Pandits had every right to continue living in the Valley,” he said. “Our educated, well-to-do relatives and neighbours were spewing venom 24 hours a day and we were mute spectators either mute in agreement or mute in abject fear but mute none the less. “And talking about mosques — what a great symbol of mass uprising they proved to be. While I can’t claim to have lived through it I have enough friends who did and they tell me about the early 90’s where attendance was taken in mosques to force people to pray,” Omar wrote. Questioning the spontaneity of processions taken out in 1990, Omar said people were forced out of their homes to participate in “mass uprisings” against “Indian occupation” and the same enforcement committees went from door to door. source:times of India

Discriminating migrants shameful

Dear Editor,
It is disgusting to find the divisive tactics of government willfully discriminating the exiled community of Kashmiri Pandits (KPs) dubbing them camp migrants and non-camp migrants in their own state.
Not to speak of their selection in any particular section of discipline they are skillfully avoided and rejected in employment cadre for no valid reason.
In the recent allotment of two room sets, the stick of justices has completely been restricted and restrained so to say denied to non camp migrants despite the fact most of them live in miserable condition paying rent for hired rooms from the date they had been displaced, dislodged under political conspiracy and threat perception.
Primarily it looks disgraceful and unconstitutional to treat KPs as migrants instead displaced. KPs are displaced by designs and not by choice.
In the first half of the decade after migration they had to wander from place to place like nomad with old parents, young girls and children to find refuge somewhere and somehow. In the second phase few of the migrants were housed in one room tenements worst than ghettos in Nazi Germany. Now after more than a decade and half few amongst the camp dewellers are made to shift to two room quarters. The government has made them a rolling stone to play a somersault in the state pushed towards identity crisis.
Policy of the Centre has been most pathetic towards rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits. Centre has no plan or intention for their concrete rehabilitation operating hit trial strategy evolving a shift gap arrangement which has made their life most uneasy and disconsolate.
Bolt from blue cannot be more severe than annihilation of birthplace leaving sufferer in perpetual shock. “I remember, remember the house where I was born, the little windows where the sun came peeping in the morning.” Home is where one starts from and unto which one’s ancestors have gone.
Musharraf’s visit to India would have remained incomplete had he not visited his ancestral place and so is the same with Advani. Nawaz Sharief’s desire to see his ancestral place at Shopian can’t be doubted. It is a natural tie and can’t be questioned.
It is most unwise to launch a project without estimating requirement of sets, on need basis which has created mess of camp and non-camp migrants causing bitterness and discomfort among migrants in general.
In upshot it is suggested to make allotment of quarters on need basis on 50:50 basis amongst camp and non-camp migrants, to accelerate the construction of two room sets on war-footing to accommodate all migrants in two room sets, rent allowance for all those migrants residing out side the camp be made operational on
humanitarian grounds Besides, time frame schedule should be evolved to avoid the crisis in allotment of quarters.
